FREE FLOW WEIR BOXES & WEIR PLATES Free Flow weir plates and weir boxes are designed for high accuracy open channel flow measurement. Typical applications include the measurement of irrigation water; industrial process discharge; wastewater treatment plant discharge and holding pond overflow. The V notch, sharp crested weir is one of the most precise discharge measuring devices, suitable for a wide range of open channel flows. The prefabricated weir box provides the necessary upstream channel dimensions required for fully contracted weir operation and maximum accuracy. Weir plates are available separately for installation in a channel fabricated by customer. Weir plates are available in fiberglass, aluminum, or stainless steel. The notch has the required 1/16" sharp crest and 45 degree bevel immediately downstream of the crest. The ventilated air pocket formed under the nappe insuresthat atmospheric pressure is present to all sides of the nappe. With atmospheric pressure on all sides the nappe is properly shaped for maximum accuracy. The pool formed upstream of a weir plate is not self scouring, to easily flush any sediment that may accumulate upstream of the weir an optional flushing port at the bottom of the weir plate is available. A head gauge in feet, with 1/100th of a foot increments is furnished at the required distance upstream of the weir. The gauge is adjustable to allow exact zeroing in the field. The optional stilling well on the exterior of weir box provides a calm surface area for precision depth gauging. The optional slide track & baffle plate are designed to help dissipate any excess energy present and distribute the flow evenly across the width of the weir box. Multiple slide tracks and baffle plates can be installed for applications where additional water calming is required. The upstream & downstream ends of the weir box can be fabricated with open ends for in channel use. When supplied with upstream & downstream bulkheads and pipe stubs, the weir box can be connected to a pipeline. The pipe stub on the weir box can be supplied with either pipe flanges or neoprene couplings with stainless steel band clamps. The flat face fiberglass pipe flange dimensions match standard 125 lb. flange bolt circle and dimensions. The downstream pipe invert is often located even with the floor to drain sediment and
prevent the downstream water level from interfering with the proper operation of the weir. |
