Free Flow Parshall Flumes

Free Flow Parshall flumes measure the flow in open channels and non-pressurized pipelines. Typical applications include:

Irrigation water & agricultural runoff
Sanitary & storm sewer discharges
Industrial process discharge
Snow melt
Holding pond overflow

Free Flow Model SC Flume, Standard Construction

Model SC flumes are intended for below grade installation in concrete with the following features:

Fabricated from reinforced polyester fiberglass with high gloss white gel-coat finish on wetted surfaces to enhance the self scouring properties of the flume.

Gel-coat finish on all exterior surfaces to prevent deterioration due to UV exposure.

1/4 inch minimum wall thickness for rigidity.

Integral "V" type fiberglass ribs on exterior sidewalls and floors.

Removable fiberglass crossbraces across top to maintain dimensional accuracy.

Free Flow Parshall Flume, Ruggedized Construction

Model RC flumes are intended for free standing, above grade applications. Support is only required at intermediate points on the underside. Model RC flumes have the same features as SC with:
    Additional “V” ribs on exterior
    Heavier wall & flange thickness
Additional crossbracing on top of flume
Wider end and top flanges for greater rigidity

Free Flow Nested Construction Flumes

Free Flow Nested Construction Parshall Flumes are designed for applications where initial flow rates are expected to be significantly less than the ultimate flow rates.

The smaller flume, nested in the larger flume, is fabricated for easy removal without damage to the larger flume.
Smaller flumes are available for field retrofitting into existing flumes having too large
of capacity.
Field retrofit kits include instructions, transition plates, stainless steel fasteners,
anchors & sealant.

Free Flow, Special Materials Construction

SMC construction provides enhanced resistance to specific chemicals and elevated temperatures.

304 or 316 stainless steel construction
Vinyl ester or other special resins

Free Flow Custom Fabricated Parshall Flumes

Free Flow Parshall flumes can be ordered with special modifications or non-standard dimensions for specific applications. Typical custom fabrications include:

Sidewall heights taller or lower than standard height.
Custom inlet & outlet adapters.
Discharge section modified to adapt to existing piping.
Sectional construction to allow disassembly and passage through limited access,
such as manhole rim.

PARSHALL FLUME OPTIONS:

Head Gauge

Free Flow head gauges allow the depth, discharge & possible submerged flow conditions of the flume to be checked at any instant.

Flush or surface mount available.
Fabricated with a clear 1/16" thick fiberglass laminate to protect gauge markings.
Ha gauge markings in both depth and flow.
Units: Inches (by tenths) & GPM; Feet (by 1/100ths) & MGD.
Hb gauge, with depth only markings, required to determine if submerged flow conditions are present. Hb gauge zero is set at the same elevation as Ha gauge.

Depth Transducer Mounting Accessories

Ultrasonic transducer mounting bracket
Bubbler tubes
Sensor cavity molded in floor & "Z" bracket for submerged pressure sensor
Slide tracks for sensors

Anchor Clips

Fiberglass anchor clips on the flume exterior sidewalls are wired to surrounding reinforcing bars or other anchoring points to secure flume in place. They insure proper alignment during and after installation.

Stilling Wells

Stilling wells provide a calm water surface where depth measurements may be taken with greater accuracy.
Stilling wells permit the most accurate depth measurements possible, especially in larger size flumes.
Attached stilling wells allow the shortest connecting passage possible to prevent plugging of the port.
Fabricated with the same materials & finish as the flume.
Top flange for mounting brackets for depth transducers.
Stilling wells extend below the floor of the flume to insure that the depth in the well reflects the actual depth in the flume.
Optional bottom drain on well facilitates well cleaning.
Standard sizes available: 8" dia. or 12" dia.

Stilling Well Connections & Remote Stilling Wells

Allow the use of a well where space limitations or limited access is a problem.
Allow installation of an oversized stilling well.
Standard stilling well connection is 304 stainless steel 2" Male NPT threaded pipe nipple.
Remote stilling well material and construction to match flume construction.
